Common driving routes are NC 133 (River Road) north through Belville and Leland, or NC 87 north toward US 17; both continue on US 17/74/76 across the Cape Fear River into Wilmington. Another option is the Southport–Fort Fisher ferry, a crossing of about 35 minutes, then US 421 north through Kure Beach and Carolina Beach.
